Do you want to work for sustainable development and be at the center of events in Norrbotten?

Norrbotten faces several interesting and complex challenges in the industrial transition where the County Administrative Board plays an important role.

We at the Environmental Protection Unit act as a party in the review process, conduct environmental code and Seveso supervision, and support businesses and municipalities with advice in our area. In Norrbotten, we have an exciting mix of both old and new industries that we work with, and as their number and complexity increase, we now need to expand our unit with additional staff.

About the job

We are now looking for an environmental specialist focused on Industry to join our team of 24 people. The unit has a broad competence base and various areas of work where you will primarily work in supervision for larger industrial establishments such as mining industries and steelworks with fossil-free technology, but also support your colleagues in permitting processes in this area. The unit works towards a system where there are always two colleagues per supervision object, which allows for a safe learning process and redundancy. In the supervision work, you will assess, follow up, and work with the companies to ensure compliance with their permits, conditions, and that they have a functioning self-monitoring system. You will also make site visits, thereby gaining a good understanding of how the various industries operate.

The County Administrative Board is an important party in driving the government's environmental policy and supporting companies in doing the right thing. Responding to referrals, working within government assignments, and supporting the authority in your area of expertise are also parts that will be included in your role. Depending on your background and interests, other parts of the authority's work may also become relevant in your role with us. As our work is in constant development, tasks may change over time, which also gives you opportunities to develop and broaden your competence with us.

About you

We are looking for someone who has:

  • an academic education with a technical or natural science focus, or other relevant education and/or experience that we assess as equivalent.
  • experience working with environmental issues within the environmental code area at industries, authorities, or alternatively worked as a consultant with environmental assessments.
  • the ability to collaborate and build good relationships while maintaining high integrity.
  • a humble approach and is willing to share your knowledge and experiences with colleagues.
  • good analytical skills and a structured way of working where you can independently drive cases forward until they are completed.

We consider it an advantage if you have experience with:

  • working with or otherwise gained knowledge about environmental issues related to industry and mining operations.
  • project management and/or driving processes in a complex environment.
  • goal conflicts and complex environmental issues.

For us, personal qualities are important, and we see it as a given that you contribute positively to our work environment and act according to the state value base.

Good to know

We use a six-month probationary period.

If you are called for an interview, you may be asked to complete a work sample.

Since some jobs with us require security clearance, you may be subject to a security review before employment. This includes a security interview and background check. For certain jobs, Swedish citizenship is required.
